According to Lianhe Zaobao, US President Trump said that he reached a new agreement with Indonesia, in which the US will impose a 19% tariff on goods from Indonesia, while US exports to Indonesia will be duty-free. Trump previously sent a letter to Indonesian President Prabowo, threatening that the US would impose a 32% tariff on Indonesian goods from August 1. Bloomberg reported that Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday (July 15): "They (Indonesia) have to pay a 19% tariff, but we don't have to, and we will get full access to the Indonesian market." Trump later posted on social media that Indonesia also agreed to purchase US$15 billion (about S$19.2 billion) worth of US energy, US$4.5 billion in US agricultural products and 50 Boeing aircraft, "many of which are 777 models." Trump also said: "If it is a transshipment from a country with a higher tariff, this tariff will be added to the tariff paid by Indonesia." Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Secretary Susiwijono Moegiarso said in a text message on Tuesday night that Indonesia is preparing a joint statement with the United States to elaborate on more details, including non-tariff measures and commercial agreements between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the European Commission plans to impose tariffs on a range of US exports, including high-value items such as aircraft, machinery, automobiles, chemicals and medical equipment. T

The total value of US products covered by the EU's tariff list is 72 billion euros (about 107.7 billion Singapore dollars). In addition to bulk industrial products, it also includes electrical equipment, precision instruments and agricultural products and food, such as wine, beer, spirits, fruits and vegetables, involving an amount of about 6.35 billion euros.

Although the EU still hopes to avoid tough tariff increases from the US through dialogue, EU Executive Vice President for Trade Affairs Šefčović recently pointed out that member states unanimously agreed that the EU must be prepared to take countermeasures if negotiations fail.
