US launched an operation to capture Nicolás Maduro.
Early in the morning of January 3, 2026 local time (around 2 a.m. Venezuelan time), multiple explosions and air strikes occurred in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, and its surrounding areas. The US military carried out a large-scale military strike on targets within Venezuela in accordance with an order from US President Donald Trump. Explosions and military activities mainly occurred in and around Caracas, including at military facilities and airports. The United States subsequently announced that its elite forces had captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and taken them out of Venezuela.
